Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan had announced today that, Government-linked companies found to be funding the Bersih 5 anti-government rally will be placed on blacklist with immediate effect.
The Minister added that he will request the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and the Public Private Partnership Unit (Ukas) to scrutinise all companies that have requested contracts from the government, after the editors of an Umno-linked broadsheet urged for stiff action to be taken against the electoral reforms pressure group.
“Companies that are evidently supporting this illegal gathering will be blacklisted immediately.
“The time to be soft and tolerating has ended. Companies that help movement that jeopardises the economical safety of the country will be ostracised,” said the minister who is also the strategic communications director of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
The editors of Malay broadsheet Mingguan Malaysia called on the government to penalise companies found to be supporting the electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 ahead of the fifth instalment of its national rally planned for November 19.
Writing under their collective moniker Awang Selamat, the Malay paper’s editors issued a critique claiming some companies had reaped huge profits from government contracts but was now conspiring to overthrow the ruling coalition in through undemocratic ways.
However, the paper did not name the GLCs it purported to be behind the enterprise.
