Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia has agreed to take part in the Bersih 5 rally planned for Nov 19.
The party’s pro-tem president, Muhyiddin Yassin, said the party shared the goals of Bersih, in demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak and for a clean government free of corruption.
“I have received an invitation from Maria Chin Abdullah (Bersih 2.0 chairman) expressing her hope that I will attend. As long as their goals are similar to what we are fighting for, I feel there is no problem,” he said.
“As long as they don’t bring up issues that can incur security problems and disturb the peace. To me, what is important is the aim which is to relay a message from the rakyat,” he said.
Bersih’s goals were in line with the party’s aims and its struggle, Muhyiddin told Sinar Harian.
The Bersih 5 rally will be held after a series of road convoys, which started on Oct 1.
Muhyiddin hoped that PPBM’s presence at the rally would not be misconstrued. He did not view Bersih as a provocative group.
PPBM secretary Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman confirmed the party’s participation, and that PPBM welcomed anyone with the same goals to attend the rally.
The country should be led by people with integrity, he said. “We no longer want our community as well as outsiders to look down on our country,” he said.
