Bersih chairperson Maria Chin said Bersih 5.0 convoy received support from all races, including Malays despite setback after hearing PAS' decison not to join Bersih 5 rally set for November 19.
But she sense that PAS’ decision not to join Bersih 5 is expected.
“We respect PAS’ decision and we did know of their decision beforehand.
“Our rally will go on and it is not for PAS nor anyone else to decide for us,” said the Bersih chairperson.
She added that organisers were also counting on newly formed Parti Perbumi Bersatu Malaysia to draw Malay support for the Nov 19 rally.
Maria also brushed aside Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed’s call for Bersih to cancel the planned rally due to poor response.
“He is basing his judgement on what happened in Lumut, Perak.
“Response for our convoy in areas have been good,” she said.
On Sunday, PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the party would not participate in the rally as Bersih currently had other objectives which were not in line with PAS’ stand.
However, Takiyuddin said that PAS had not issued instructions prohibiting its members from participating in the rally as some may join it on their own accord.
