No VIP will be spared if they are found to be involved in illegal activities, warned Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, adding that enforcement agencies will not discriminate when nabbing them.
“Even if there are people in the Dewan Rakyat now who are patrons of such societies, be prepared to face the consequences in line with the existing laws,” the deputy prime minister who is also home minister said.
“When we take action, don’t accuse the government of being cruel. They (illegal groups) are cruel to their own people, so they should not accuse the government of being cruel to them,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today
Zahid was responding to Hasan Malek (BN–Kuala Pilah) on measures taken to nab those involved in illegal immigrants and an additional question by Idris Ahmad (PAS–Bukit Gantang) who asked if the ministry would continue to monitor NGOs.
Zahid said he was aware of several societies that were masked as religious organisations.
“If they make statements that are beyond their interests or limits, rest assured the Government will not compromise, action will be taken.
“I promise, for as long as I am home minister, I will do my best for the rakyat’s interest,” he said.
Zahid said action has been taken against 49 secret societies and illegal groups so far, adding that they are monitoring several organisations, including NGOs.
