Kedah reps keep mum over speculation on new MB

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25, 2016:
Almost all of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Kedah state assemblymen have opted to stay mum over the Menteri Besar crisis plaguing the state.

The only exception was Bakar Bata assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

Speaking at his service centre today, Ahmad Bashah continued to lay down the problems the dissatisfied representatives had with the state’s Menteri Besar — including the fact that Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir was constantly in Kuala Lumpur and hardly seen in Kedah.

As reported by Bernama, Ahmad Bashah said this issue had been repeatedly raised by the state’s Umno leaders but was not addressed by Mukhriz.

Meanwhile, The Rakyat Post‘s efforts to obtain comments from the rest of the representatives on rumours that Istana Anak Bukit in Kedah was preparing for the swearing-in ceremony of a new MB, proved futile.






“I do not have the capacity to give any comments. So I don’t want to comment. Let’s just wait and see.

“With regards to preparations being made, I don’t know, I was not made aware of this,” Pantai Merdeka state representative Ali Yahya said when contacted.

The same stand was also adopted by Sungai Tiang assemblyman Datuk Suraya Yaacob.

“I thought you were from the palace, sorry,” was all she said after finding out she was talking to a journalist, after which she ended the phone call.





Guar Chempedak state representative Datuk Dr Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail also did not wish to give any comments on the matter.

Several other state assemblymen, namely Datuk Mohd Tajudin Abdul Rahman (Belantik), Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zain (Tanjong Dawai), Datuk Azmi Che Hussin (Bayu) and Datin Norsabrina Mohd Noor (Bandar Baharu), could not be reached for comments.

Rumours were rife in the northern state that a new MB would be sworn in soon.

This came after a majority of the state’s Umno leaders, led by its deputy liaison chairman, Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, had declared that they lost confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership.

A meeting was held between Ahmad Bashah’s group and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak last week and the Prime Minister had asked for more time to resolve the matter.

Earlier today, a source had told The Rakyat Post that the swearing-in ceremony could take place on Friday.
