Jealousy is without doubt. a normal element in most, if not, all relationships. It is capable of making an individual carry out the most ridiculous of things to overcome it- with its pestering voice that makes you formulate ridiculous thoughts and even ideas. However, one man from George Town, Penang may have just taken it too far.
According to NST, a man hit his 28-year-old girlfriend with the head of an axe, all because her friends on Facebook complimented her on her beauty.
The incident is reported to have taken place last Thursday night (21st January) when she returned to their home in Taman Pisang Awak, Kampung Melayu here in Penang.
Upon arriving home, she got into a heated argument with her 52-year-old boyfriend.
After a while, the argument escalated and took a turn for the worst when he reached out for an axe, hit her on the hands and legs with the axe’s head, before chasing her out of their home.
She lodged a police report the following day.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said investigations suggested that the incident was sparked by jealousy from the boyfriend of the victim.
“The suspect had thought that the victim had another boyfriend, although she denied it,” he told reporters.
The couple have been living together in the same house for the last two years and have a four-month old daughter. They however, have no marriage certificate.
Mior said the victim suffered a swollen right eye and bruises on her hands.
“The victim had initially decided not to prolong the case if the suspect agrees to come to the police station and promises not to hit her again in future.
“However, when we visited the house, the suspect had left, believed to have fled,” he said, adding that the suspect had previous records for drug offences, criminal intimidation and theft.
Mior added that the case was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.
