KUALA LUMPUR: A 25-year-old man has been arrested after he turned himself in at Jalan Bandar traffic police on Saturday evening, hours after the deaths of three Thaipusam devotees in a road accident on the Seremban-Kuala Lumpur highway near Sri Petaling.
Kuala Lumpur traffic police investigation Deputy Supt S. Markandan said the man surrendered himself at the Jalan Bandar traffic police at 7.20pm on Saturday and was being questioned.
“If needed, we will ask for a remand order in the near future, but we will investigate him first,” said Markandan.
The three Thaipusam devotees died after a car ploughed into their group while they were walking from Senawang, near Seremban, to the Batu Caves temple here to celebrate Thaipusam.
Three others were seriously injured. Police said on Saturday that the driver had sped off after the accident. Police began a search for a black BMW car, based on a number plate found at the scene. It was found abandoned on the Lekas highway at 1pm.
