POLICEMEN STAND BY ALLEGEDLY DRUNK FELLOW POLICE OFFICER INSTEAD OF ARRESTING HIM FOR DRUNK DRIVING
Police officers are responsible for upholding the law in our country. But what happens when a police officer breaks the law? Will his fellow officer abide the law and arrest the said police officer? Given their authority and position in the justice system, they can easily ‘help‘ the said fellow police officer by not bringing him to the attention of the law. Is this where moral authority steps in? Will the emotional sentiment of police officers get in the way of their sworn duty?
A video of a police officer who allegedly crashed his car into a divider on the highway that was uploaded online by Facebook page We Fully Support Pakatan Harapan began circulating widely on social media after it was uploaded yesterday.
According to the description of the post, the allegedly intoxicated police officer crashed his silver Perodua Kancil into a divider. The police officer emerged unharmed and called for help shortly after the crash.
A patrol car came to the scene.
The two officers could be seen in the video standing far away from the allegedly intoxicated officer, and didn’t show any signs of attempting to arrest him or even question him.
The presence of alcohol in the police officer’s system can be seen through his slurred speech, odd body language and his defensive behaviour- was he trying to conceal the fact that he was intoxicated?
All drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol are required by law to be reprimanded and questioned immediately, yet the patrol officers let the intoxicated officer to roam freely about- which strongly hints at the fact that he is not going to be penalised nor punished for driving under the influence of alcohol.
At this point, it is unknown if the allegedly intoxicated police officer was arrested or brought in for questioning- but we, among the 15,000 other Malaysians who have viewed the video, highly doubt that he was even brought in for questioning.
