KUALA LUMPUR: Observing birthdays and wedding anniversaries are normal events, said a political analyst in his latest blog posting.
“However, no Prime Minister has ever before celebrated his years in politics.”
Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and his successor, Abdullah Badawi, who are both alive and have been very involved in politics, have never observed their years in the field.”
So, the question must be raised on why Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak feels that it’s necessary for him to observe his 40 years in politics, added Shahbudin Husin the analyst. “Why 40 years? What makes it so special?”
“Why not 45 years or 50 years?”
The analyst noted that Najib did not observe his 30 years and 35 years in politics.
If many feel that the RM42 billion 1MDB Scandal and the RM2.6 billion political “donation” are strange happenings in the country, said Shahbudin, observing 40 years in politics is yet another strange event. He does not rule out 2016 being the last year that Najib would celebrate anything as Umno President and Prime Minister.
Shahbudin was commenting on Umno hosting a celebration this Saturday to express thanks for Najib’s 40 years of involvement in politics. “He began in 1976 when he contested in a by-election to replace his late father Abdul Razak, the second Prime Minister.”
The celebration, to be held at the PWTC in Kuala Lumpur, will begin at 6pm. It will begin with solat maghrib, reading of the Yassin, and the doa selamat, followed by food, drinks and speeches.
The invitation letters to Umno leaders throughout the nation, signed by party Secretary-General Tunku Adnan Tunku Mansor, were distributed last week and have made their way into the social media.
