Hindraf chairman Waythamoorthy says it is unfair to locals, especially the Indian labour force, to bring in even more migrant workers.
KUALA LUMPUR: A task force will be set up to address Putrajaya’s aspirations to bring 1.5 million Bangladeshis into the country to become labourers, according to Hindraf chairman P. Waythamoorthy.
Speaking at a press conference here today, he said the task force would comprise of non-governmental organisations from all races.
He added that the task force was not targeting Bangladeshis, nor was it against migrant workers.
Waythamoorthy said it was unfair to the locals – especially the Indian community – to bring in even more foreigners to take up labourer jobs when there was already an influx of migrant workers.
“We want to make it very clear that we are not against Bangladeshis, but to bring in more foreigners will hurt the Indians because a large number of Indians are at the labourer level and they do not have jobs as it is.”
Waythamoorthy pointed out that currently there were around four million undocumented immigrants in the country.
“The government should legalise these foreigners instead of bringing even more foreigners into the country.”
