Umno blog says Najib's detractors are twisting facts.
PETALING JAYA: Umno blog MyKMU has accused Prime Minister Najib Razak’s detractors of twisting a statement by Public Accounts Committee Vice-Chairman Tan Seng Giaw to make it seem that former 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) chairman Mohd Bakke Salleh resigned from the state-owned firm because of the controversial RM2.6 billion political donation.
In an article posted today, the blog pointed out that Bakke resigned from the debt-ridden firm twice on April 7 and October 11, 2009 whereas Najib received the donation in 2013.
It also pointed out that when Tan issued his statement last Thursday, he merely said Bakke resigned twice from 1MDB because he was dissatisfied with the firm’s management.
MyKMU also accused Najib’s detractors of trying to confuse the public by mixing up facts.
It noted a statement that Petrosaudi made on March 1, 2015, in which it said one of its subsidiary companies had received USD700 million.
“This USD700 million is different from the political donation received, which was USD681 million. The action of rounding up the value of USD681 million to USD700 million is irresponsible.”
Last July, the Wall Street Journal alleged that USD700 million was channelled into Najib’s personal accounts.
The report claimed that the money had come from 1MDB but the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) later declared that the money had nothing to do with 1MDB.
Najib subsequently said the money was a donation given to him by “someone from the Middle East” to help him and Barisan Nasional win in the last general election.
