Deputy minister chides airline after flight cancellations and causing inconvenience to passengers.

PETALING JAYA: A deputy minister has chided Rayani Air, which bills itself as Malaysia’s first sharia-compliant airline, for cancelling flights at will, causing inconvenience to passengers.

Dr Ashraf Wajdi Dusuki said Rayani Air’s claim was not only too good to be true but it had also failed to comply with the principles of syariah-compliance.

“Rayani Air should not only be proud of their attire that is to cover up the body but to keep up with its promise to be punctual, which is also one of the principles of syariah,” said Ashraf, who is a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

“If the principle of service such as this cannot be complied with, do not claim that the airline is the first syariah-compliant. Islam is not just a label, let alone be traded but must meet Islamic principles, values and morals are more important,” he wrote on Facebook.

Recently, Rayani Air cancelled several flights, causing passengers to ambush the airline’s office at KLIA2. Rayani Air had also cancelled two flights to and from Langkawi because the plane cockpit mirror cracked, causing many passengers to be stranded.
