Firefly apologises for using visuals in its advertisements that caused discomfort to some.

PETALING JAYA: Firefly today took to Facebook to apologise for featuring women’s buttocks in advertisements to promote their discounted low-cost flights.

The announcement on Facebook said: “We at Firefly have no intention to be sexist in how we conduct our business and we have the utmost respect for everyone.

“We regret that our recent advertisement visuals caused discomfort in certain quarters and for that, we apologise.”

Firefly had placed two advertisements on its Facebook page on March 7 and March 11 that showed the buttocks of women in pencil skirts.

One had the caption “Oooppss, We did it again, 60%” with “50% + 10% off” printed on the rear of two women.

The other showed a bench with the words “Caution, wet paint” and the imprint “50% off” on the rear of another woman. It carried the caption: “Firefly sticks to you, 50% off all flights”.

Firefly has removed the two advertisements.

Critics dubbed the advertisements as sexist and distasteful.

The advertisements were first posted on Firefly’s Facebook page on Monday, with the caption “Come grab it real fast”.
