Sacked air force pilot will also look after the affairs of the poor in the state.

PETALING JAYA: The Penang government has appointed former air force pilot Major Zaidi Ahmad as the chief minister’s information officer.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who swore in Zaidi today, said the former Royal Malaysian Air Force pilot would be tasked with running the state’s Equitable Economic Agenda (AES or Agenda Ekonomi Saksama) for the poor, reported Malaysiakini.

Zaidi was sacked in January 2015 for challenging the Election Commission on the “indelible” ink used in the 2013 General Election.

Dubbing Zaidi as one of Malaysia’s “success stories”, Lim said the former had realised the dream of most young boys – to become a pilot.

Zaidi is currently Parti Amanah Negara’s Kepala Batas division communications director.

According to Lim, Zaidi would be tasked with meeting youths to convince them to return and contribute to the state. The AES programme is aimed at assisting the hardcore poor by topping up their earnings to RM750 a month.

Zaidi’s job is to monitor and motivate the recipients as well as to ensure the money is well spent.
