Another likely candidate for the post is Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, says report.

PETALING JAYA: Former Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi could be the next adviser to Petronas, reported The Star Online today.

Another candidate in the running for the post is Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li), said the report.

The post became vacant after former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad was removed by the cabinet last week, after holding the post for more than 12 years.

This after the elderly statesman’s role in the Citizens’ Declaration, which seeks to remove Najib Razak as Prime Minister.

The report quoted Johor Bahru MP Shahrir Samad saying the adviser’s position has traditionally been given to former prime ministers, which would make Abdullah, the most likely candidate.

As for Ku Li, he served as the first chairman and CEO of Petronas at the age of 37. Speculation also intensified after the veteran politician met Najib at the latter’s residence a week ago, but sources say the discussion did not touch on the Petronas role.

He told the portal there was no need to appoint him to the post and he was happy the way he is.
