PAS spiritual leader believes that the declaration will be forgotten in the blink of an eye as it is no different from past movements calling on Najib Razak to resign.

PETALING JAYA: The declaration tabled by former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad today will not have much impact as it has not been taken to Parliament, predicted PAS’ Spiritual Leader Dr Haron Din.

He said the declaration, signed by influential leaders from across the political divide, did not differ much from all other movements that had taken place in the last one year.

For it to carry any weight, he added, the declaration calling for Najib Razak’s resignation should be taken to Parliament in the form of a no-confidence motion against the prime minister.

“The declaration is similar to the voices we’ve heard in the regular campaigns that also focused on urging the public to reject Najib’s administration as well as Umno and BN,” he told FMT when contacted.

Haron expressed the belief that the matter would be forgotten in “a blink of an eye” as he reiterated that the declaration contained nothing new.

“These voices of dissent have been expressed many times, but Najib is still sitting comfortably in his seat.

“Today’s declaration is just one of many and it will serve no purpose.”

Haron left it to Najib to decide what his next move should be following the relentless attacks by those who wanted to see him step down from his position.

“If we look at the current situation, there are so many troubles burdening the prime minister, including the threat to the government’s credibility.

“We only hope Najib will consider (the voices of dissent) and, afterwards, it is up to him to respond by stepping down. Maybe the more we push, the easier it would be for Najib to make up his mind.”
