GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng gave the press a guided tour of his controversial bungalow today, personally showing about 30 reporters and photographers around the house.
The press were allowed to take videos while at the compound, but only still photographs inside the house, according to Star Online.
The double-storey bungalow house on 10,000 sq ft of land at No 25 Jalan Pinhorn, off Green Lane in George Town, was the subject of a parliamentary question on Thursday.
Tasek Gelugor MP Shahbudin Yahaya questioned the purchase of the house for RM2.8 million on Oct 25 last year, saying that it was below the market price of similar houses, of RM6-RM6.5 million.
Lim challenged Shahbudin to repeat his allegations in public, without parliamentary immunity. “That way I can sue him for defamation,” he was quoted as saying by NST Online.
Lim, who is MP for Bagan, was not present at the Dewan Rakyat at the time. He responded in a press statement saying the bungalow was more than 30 years old, did not have a swimming pool, and had been bought on a “willing buyer-willing seller” basis.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has opened an investigation after police reports were lodged, questioning the link between the bungalow purchase and the sale of state land to a business associate of the house-owner for a hospital and hotel project.
The state land, at Taman Manggis, off Jalan Burmah, had previously been earmarked for low-cost housing.
Lim has urged that the investigation be speeded up so he could prove that there was no corruption involved.
