Division pledges strong support for Najib, urges Guan Eng to come clean about RM2.8mil bungalow purchase.

PETALING JAYA: A second Umno division in Penang has called on the party’s national leadership to take stern action against certain Umno leaders and members for acting against the party interests.

Following Tanjung division on Saturday, Jelutong division chief Abdul Razak Rahman said the Umno supreme council should not compromise party discipline.

He said former Deputy Prime Minister Muhiyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Chief Minister Mukhriz Mahathir should face the music immediately.

The two were among 45 people who signed the Citizens’ Declaration initiated by Mukhriz’s father, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, which calls for the ouster of Najib Razak as prime minister.

Muhyiddin has been suspended as deputy president last month and removed from the Cabinet as deputy prime minister last year while Mukhriz was deposed as Kedah menteri besar recently.

Jelutong Umno also wants the party to remove the two men as well as Dr Mahathir from all positions in government-linked companies and agencies.

“The party top leadership must send a strong message to all party members to adhere to party regulations and ethics,” Abdul Razak told newsmen after a division meeting in George Town last night.

Jelutong Umno pledged strong backing to Najib. Abdul Razak said it was crucial for all Umno leaders to rally behind Najib and give strong support to party and federal government leadership when facing adversaries.

He said Umno leaders and members must be careful with certain internal elements instigating them to rebel against the party’s current leadership for their own personal agenda.

“Support to the leadership is the most important thing to do when the Umno president is being attacked by selfish people. We must stand solidly behind Najib and support him. This is not a time for members to take on each other,” said Abdul Razak.

He also called on Penang chief minister and DAP leader Lim Guan Eng not to worry about the imminent investigation by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission over his controversial purchase of a double-storey bungalow in Jalan Pinhorn, George Town, for RM2.8 million which was been said to be lower than the market rate.

“Lim should be brave enough to answer all the criticisms levelled against him for buying it at lower than market price,” he said.

“He just has to be honest to the people of Penang. Lim owes the people of Penang an explanation over this issue. The people of Penang have the right to know about it. The chief minister should come clean on this and and answer all allegations,” said Abdul Razak.
