However, Idris Haron says Prime Minister did not say it came from RM2.6 billion political donation.

PETALING JAYA: Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron said BN spent more than RM1.5 billion for the 13th General Election, Malaysiakini reported.

He said the money for this did not necessarily come from the RM2.6 billion political donation in Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal bank accounts, it added.

Idris was commenting on a claim made by Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir that Najib had revealed during a meeting with Umno chiefs that BN had spent RM1.5 billion on the last general election.

He said the PM did not say the RM1.5 billion came from the political donation.

Mukhriz had queried in a video, uploaded by blogger Din Turtle, how Najib could return RM2.03 billion from the political donation if he had aleady spent RM1.5 billion on the general election.

Idris said no political party had declared how much they spent on the election.

“Definitely, PKR spent more than BN on Selangor and DAP more than BN in Penang. That is why they won the election,” he said.

Idris said the meeting had also discussed how donations were received by former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad. This was then inherited by his successor, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and later by Najib, he said.

“But nobody knows where Mahathir got the money; nobody knows that he had also collected money.

”Even Muhyiddin (Yassin), as deputy president, must have received donations. Why didn’t he declare then and say how much he had received?”

Pro-Umno portal MyKMU had earlier reported that Umno had no choice but to expel Mukhriz for revealing discussions that were supposed to be secret.
