It wants all parties and groups to formulate a joint campaign for institutional reform against the Federal Govt and to free Anwar Ibrahim.

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan has called on all parties and groups for a discussion to save the country from the “misconduct” of the Federal Government.

PKR President Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) President Mohamad Sabu, in a joint statement, said they would announce details of the discussion on March 7 at Parliament building.

“Pakatan Harapan welcomes all parties to formulate a joint campaign which will be driven by all groups and citizens.

“Pakatan Harapan respects the voices of the people, who want political differences and interests to be set aside for the sake of saving the country.

“Pakatan Harapan defends the people’s desire to have institutional reform (including the release of Anwar Ibrahim, who is a victim of abuse of power), not just to change the prime minister and maintain the existing system.”

Anwar Ibrahim, who was the former leader of the Opposition pact, was jailed on Feb 10 last year after he was found guilty of sodomising his former aide, Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

The three Opposition leaders said this in connection with former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad quitting Umno yesterday.

Mahathir also hoped sacked Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin would do the same as a sign of protest against Prime Minister Najib Razak’s administration.

Last Saturday, Muhyiddin had said the mere rejection of Najib was not enough and changes to the country’s laws and political institutions were needed.

“The statements by Mahathir and Muhyiddin so far indicate that they accept the fact that the government’s system of centralising the power in the prime minister’s hands is dangerous.

“This stand is similar to the policy pursued by Pakatan Harapan, which demands for comprehensive institutional reform.”
