Islamic party says it has its own approach, which involves calling for fresh polls and a royal commission to probe 1MDB and RM2.6 billion donation.
PETALING JAYA: PAS will not endorse any move mooted by Dr Mahathir Mohamad to oust Prime Minister Najib Razak.
PAS Secretary-General Takiyuddin Hassan announced today the party did not want to be involved in the movement championed by the former prime minister.
He said the party preferred its own approach of using the democratic process and constitutional channels to advance change in the country’s leadership.
Among PAS’ demands are for Parliament to be dissolved to pave the way for a general election for citizens to once again give their mandate and for PAS to meet the Conference of Rulers and propose the setting up of a Royal Commission to investigate 1MDB, the RM2.6 billion donation and SRC International issues.
“PAS invites citizens to join us and the Third Political Bloc as the alternative to replace the current central government, which is riddled in scandals and administrative setbacks,” Takiyuddin said in a statement.
In a separate statement, PAS Johor Commissioner Mahfodz Mohamed said suspended Umno Deputy President Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision to remain a member of Umno was seen as a “fearful act”, indicating that the former No. 2 was “not confident in saving Malaysia”.
The state PAS commissioner also said Johor saw Umno as a party that had lost its pride and integrity, unable to fight for the future of Malaysia.
“If Muhyiddin wants to see Malaysia become a respected country where its citizens prosper, he must be ready to stand together and demand for change,” Mahfodz said.
